About Daniel Beyer
I grew up in the quaint midwest towns of Woodstock, Illinois and Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Turns out, they were the residences of some very talented cartoonists: 'Dick Tracy' creator, Chester Gould (Woodstock); 'Mr. Boffo" creator, Joe Martin and 'The Gumps' creator, Sydney Smith (both Lake Geneva). I always enjoyed drawing but the more I learned about these cartoonists and their amazing work, as well as meeting the great Bill Sanders (former editorial cartoonist/Milwaukee Journal), the more I wanted to be a cartoonist. I had my first cartoon published in my high school newspaper. I spent the next few years getting editorial cartoons and comic strips published in weekly and college newspapers. During that time, I studied art & design at Columbia College in Chicago, received my BA, and had a fun career in advertising as an art director. I created ads for a dozen years for a variety of clients (Club Car, Roto Rooter) until my twin boys arrived in 2007. A few months after the boys were born, I became a full-time, stay-at-home dad and my wife went back to her job in advertising. I also started submitting cartoons to magazines. It wasn't long before I had a few sales - first with Reader's Digest, then with The New Yorker and, most recently, Playboy. After awhile I built up a nice library of cartoons that didn't sell but I thought were good enough for public consumption. I titled the cartoons "Long Story Short", posted them on the GoComics/Sherpa site and quickly received positive feedback from cartoonists and readers. After about a year of posting, I came across a cartoon contest being held by The Cartoonist Studio where the winner would get a development deal with Creators Syndicate. I entered and I'm very pleased that my comic won.
I reside in Greenfield, Wisconsin with my amazing wife Tarrah; our two beautiful boys, Arjin & Jordan; and our kitty, Oscar.
